Iceland Photo Tour - Saturday July 6th, 2013

July 06, 2013 at 10:47 PM

The trekkers have arrived safely in Iceland, landing at 6:30 a.m. this morning.  After clearing customs and meeting our bus we started our day with breakfast down by the sea shore.

We started our day of shooting at the continental divide, where the Eurasia and North America Plates meet.  You can cross the divide by bridge or walk down into the divide.  The mixed sky of clouds and blue made for some great photography.

We photographed at several other areas on the south coast today, including some geothermal regions which were generating large amounts of steam.  The interesting thing to note was signs warning the ground temperature of 80 to 100C.

Before heading into Reykjavik and checking into our hotel the group visited and had a chance to swim in the blue lagoon.  A very relaxing way to complete our first day.

This evening we held our welcome dinner at a new eating establishment called MAR, down by the harbour.  With almost 24 hours under our belt it was an early evening to get some rest before we depart on our round the island journey.

Enjoy some images from todays photo shoots.

Looking down the divide where the Eurasia and North America plates meet.

The bridge that you can cross over the divid, the ocean and beautiful sky background.

The wave activity was quite heavy today along the shoreline.

The waves made for some great action photography.

Coastal light house, looking though the steam vent field.

There was some amazing steam activity happening here.

Another view

Bev taking some close up shots of flowers along the steam fields.

You could feel the heat coming from the ground.

Another view of the light house in the distance.

An HDR shot of the steam vents.

The board walk winds though the steam fields. There was a homestead here in 1930.

Warning of ground temperature of 80-100 degrees centigrade.

Steam vents are not limited to flat fields, then can be found in the hills too.

Great way to wrap up the day, Michael in the bottom right corner.

Susan, Bev, David and Lenora enjoying blue lagoon, steam fields in the background.

My co-host Vanessa enjoying the mineral waters and having a mud facial.

Sanford and Dean, the blue is a form of algae in mixed with the minerals  in the water.

Some of the landscape around blue lagoon

Another shot, notice all the calcium around the edges of the lagoon.

That’s it for this evenings post.  Tomorrow we depart at 9:00 a.m. for Thingviller, Gyser and several water falls as we travel out to the south coast.

Good night from James, Vanessa and the Photo Trekkers in Iceland.
