Monument Valley Photo Tour - Wednesday May 2nd, 2012

A great day here in Arches National Park.  We went into the park at 6:00 a.m. this morning to take sunrise photos.  It started out pretty good, but cloud cover filled the valley and there was really never much colour.

At 8:30 we went back into the park and hiked to Landscape Arch, Tunnel Arch and Pine View Arch.  All three locations were beautiful, some of the more energetic continued and hiked to Double O Arch.

After a two and a half hour break we went back into the park and hiked to Delicate Arch, this was a bit more of a serious hike.  The reward was amazing.  Delicate Arch is beautiful and the group was pleased with the reward at the end of the hike.  There were a few that could not do this hike so we arranged for them to tour areas of the park that have an easier access.

Tomorrow we pull out early to start our 300 mile drive to Bryce Canyon.  We have a surprise in store for the group enroute and will share that with you tomorrow night.

Enjoy todays images, and Good night from James, Dave, and the Photo Trekkers in Arches National Park.

The sunrise from Jim’s lens, catch it quick.

The warm colours of the sun hitting Gossip Rock.

Solitary flower.

Some of the group at sunrise, they all look pretty happy considering it’s 6:05 a.m.

Dave capturing some images at Gossip Rock this morning.

Frank shooting courthouse rock at sunrise.

Leaving for our early morning hike, hight wall on Devil’s Garden Trail.  Brenda can be seen entering the canyon.

This is Landscape Arch.  This is the largest arch in the park and spans the width of a football field.

This is an infrared shot taken by Sidney Siu of Landscape Arch.

Another View of the Arch, lots of beautiful clouds today.

Dick Blosdale starts his descent from Double O Arch Trail.

This is not a photo of the arch ...

This is Micro Chip ... Pixel’s cousin.

A Gopher Snake crossed the path.

Another shot of the Gopher Snake as he moves through some brush.

This is beautiful Pine Tree Arch.

After a 1 3/4 mile hike / climb the reward is Delicate Arch which you can see in the background.  This is a somewhat difficult hike, and you ascend a little over 500 feet from the trail head to the top where the arch is located.  Here are a few of the photographers admiring the view.  It took about one hour and thirty minutes each way.

Delicate Arch up close.

Sue, Bob and Frank photographing Delicate Arch.

Trekkers Stop Light ... Approach the intersection with extreme caution it has cameras!!!!

Another view of Delicate Arch, this is one of the most beautiful arches in the National Park.

Sunset tonight at Fiery Furnace, there was some great colour.

Silhouettes on the rocks at sunset.  That’s it for this evening good night from Arches National Park.  Don’t forget to check back tomorrow to see our surprise for the group.

Well that sounds like some hefty hiking there!! But all worth it in the end. Despite the clouds I'm sure there was still plenty to take. Can't wait for tonight's posting to find out what the surprise is.

Keep those shutters busy!!
