March 01, 2020 - Rongè Island and George Point - Day 7 of blog, 11 days into our tour.
The last stop of our expidition is Rongè Island and George Point. This morning we cruzed the bay in our zodiacs with sighting of many more whales, sea lions, Gentoo and Chinstrap penguins. We also had spectactular up-close views of icebergs. At the landing site on Rongè Island, we were surrounded by fur seals and penguins including some interesting baby penguins and feeding. The misty atmosphere and the cold wind gave a authentic “Antarctic vibe” to the day.
Another interesting sidebar story is this young lady below, her name is Hazel she is 93 years old from the north of Scotland. It has been a life long dream of hers to visit Antarctica. Interesting was to find out her great grandfather was Fridtjof Wedel-Jarlsberg Nansen, the Norwegian explorer. Hazel was accompanied by her friend Katherine, she can be seen in the background of this image. It was a pleasure to meet you Hazel.
It was another fantastic day in Antarctica. This evenibg we finished the voyage with a great talent show from the ships crew. Tonight we set sail for our return to South America and through the night we will start our sailingthrough the Drake passage. Fingers crossed for a smooth crossing. Tomorrow is a day at sea. Enjoy todays selection of images.
