Galapagos Islands - Day 4 Arrival Galapagos Islands
After 3 days in Quito, we flew early this morning from Quito to Baltra Airport on the Galapagos Islands. The flight takes approximately 2 1/2 hours including a refueling stop at Guayaquil airport on the Ecuador coast. We were welcomed at the airport by our Galapagos Islands naturalist Omar who escorted the group to our ship. Once onboard we set sail for North Seymour Island. North Seymour is a well known nesting island for the Frigate bird. As we explored and photographed on the island the trails led us to many nesting Frigate birds and plenty of babies and juvenile birds. We had many photo opportunities along the shore with sea lions and amazing waves breaking over the rocks due to the super moon. Needless to say it was an amazing first day. We stayed on the island until sunset then returned back to our ship to settle in, dinner, captain’s welcome and our first nightly briefing and presentation by our naturalist Omar. The above map shows our first days sailing route including our overnight trip to Genovesa. Enjoy the selection of images from our first day in the Galapagos.
