Galapagos Islands Day 6
Santa Cruz & Giant Tortoise
Early this morning we dropped anchor in the harbour on the island of Santa Cruz. This morning we visited the Darwin Research and Breeding Centre. Reachers are continuously working on solutions to keep the islands protected. Over the years many species have been introduced to the islands that do have. The centre also works on breeding tortoises and one they reach a certain age they return them to the wild. Species from each of the islands are keep separate and returned to their islands. After lunch we traveled to the highlands to see the giant tortoise that live high in the mountain region. The females make the trek back down to the beaches to lay their eggs each season. While in the highlands we also visited some of the huge lava tunnels that were formed centuries ago. Another amazing day on the islands. Tonight we sail to south most region to visit the isle of Floreana. Enjoy todays photos.
