India Day 11 AND 12
To Agra and The Taj - May 10th and 11th, 2019
At sunrise we made a return visit to Keoladeo National Park for one more opportunity to photograph the birds and creatures. We spent three hours enjoying the park and a leisurely pace.
After a great breakfast we began our drive to Agra. On route we stopped for a quick visit to the walls of Fatehpur Sikri the red sandstone fortress. Built by Mughal Emperor Akbar during 1564 A.D.
Agra is beautifully situated on the banks of river Yamuna. Agra achieved prominence as the capital of Mughal Emperors from the year 1526 to 1628.
We arrived in Agra and after check-in, and lunch we had some relaxation time including a visit to the inviting pool at the Tajview hotel. Aptly named for the views from the hotel rooms.
We decided with such a clear day to add an early closer peak of the magical Taj Mahal, from across the river Yamuna at the golden hour of sunset.
Before our added viewing of the Taj Mahal we visited the Tomb of Itimad-ud-Daulah a Mughal mausoleum in Agra. It is also referred to as the Jewel Box or the Baby Taj. The Baby Taj was fascinating and very photogenic.
We arrived at a park setting directly facing the traditional backside of the Taj Mahal just as the sun was warming the colours on the impressive white marble structure. Newly found remains of a garden complex that pre-date the Taj added interest to the park area. The sky and light was fantastic. It was a diverse and fulfilling day in India, sadly this was our last night in India.
Our final full day of activities included a sunrise visit to the Taj, and then a midnight flight home. It has been an amazing journey … tiger encounters, wildlife, the experience of culture and many new friends. Thank you for joining us, we have enjoyed sharing the adventure with you, Check back at the end of June as we travel to the Galapagos Inlands with anther group[ of photographers.
