Things to know before you go
Welcome O3C photographers, we look forward to travelling with you. Below is a list of items that we are frequently asked about prior to travel. Please note before each tour we review travel requirements with each guest specific to our destination.
Travel Insurance - Medical / Trip Cancellation
If you are travelling with us on a tour that takes you out of your province or country please make sure you have reviewed your medical insurance. Note some countries now require proof of travel insurance before you are allowed to enter.
As your trip is an investment, consider taking out trip cancellation insurance. If you become ill or something happens to a loved one you may need to cancel your trip or need to return home early. Trip cancellation insurance means you do not have to worry if you find yourself in this situation. If you required medical or cancellation insurance let us know. We can advise and quote you on a policy that best suits your travel needs.
Your Passport - Make sure to check your passport expiry date. Most countries require you have 6 months from your date of return remaining on your passport. If you do not have enough time remaining on your passport make sure you leave enough time to process a replacement application.
It is a good idea to scan and print the photo page of your passport and store it in a different location than your official passport as you travel. Another tip is take a picture of your photo page with your cell phone.
Take a photo of important documents - Take a photo of important documents - passport, visas, insurance, etc. and save them to the cloud so you can access them everywhere. Trust us, if there is an emergency there is nothing worse than being without your documents.
Tourist Visa - Some countries require you to acquire a visa before entering their country. We will advise you if this is needed and assist you in obtaining a visa.
Prescription Medication - If you take prescription medication, make sure you have enough for our time away. Be sure to pack your medication in your carry-on bag. If your checked luggage is delayed or lost it is easy to get clothing and toiletries, but not so easy to refill perceptions.
Speak with a travel doctor -Some of our tours require you to have certain vaccinations or to take malaria pills. We will advise you on these particular tours and recommend that you visit a travel doctor. Take a copy of our tour itinerary with you to this appointment as it will assist the doctor on how to advise you on what you will require for your trip.
Credit Cards, Debit Cards and Cash - Credit cards and debit cards will work in most countries we visit. It is always best to check with your financial institution prior to travel. For security purposes some banks ask you to tell them when you leave the country to ensure your cards work when you are travelling. Bring some cash. Things can happen, and we may not always be close to a bank when the banks are open for business. We will advise you of the local currency for the tour you have booked.
Bring a hydro adapter - Countries have different size plugs and voltage. If you want to use your device, make sure you can charge it. When traveling to a country wth 220V we don't recommend brining a power bar from home. A power bar wiring is for 120 volts.
Activate your phone’s global capabilities - There is usually a charge for doing this, but it is much less than the roaming charges you will pay if you don’t. It is always best to check with your local provider about your options before you travel.
Check the voltage of your electronics - Be sure to confirm the voltage on the electronics you are bringing, camera battery chargers and laptop computers have a built in converter they will have 120/230V written on them. All you wil need to bring is a hydro adapter. Air dryers, curling irons etc need a power converter in countires that are 220 volts. Most hotels and lodges we use have air dryers. We will always provide you with power information prior tour your tour.
If you get lost - Our golden rule: Stop, Think, Observe and Plan (S.T.O.P.) People are friendlier then you think, so stop and ask for help. We also suggest if you leave the hotel outside of group time to take a business card from the front desk to show a cab driver if you need to get back to the hotel. This is very important if you don't speak the local language.
Pick up tips from other travellers, but take all advice with a pinch of salt - Travellers have a lot to share and they can help you to make the most of your experience. Don’t be put off from visiting somewhere just because someone else did not like the location — we’re all different. Look for tips when you travel and request information from those who have already been where you are going.
